Omkar Baxi, M.D.
Dr. Omkar Baxi is an orthopaedic surgeon with fellowship training in hand and wrist surgery. He specializes in problems of the peripheral nerves, hand, wrist and elbow.
Dr. Baxi is originally from South Jersey where he had his first exposure to medicine as an EMT for his hometown ambulance squad. He graduated summa cum laude in biomedical and tissue engineering from Drexel University. He attended the Drexel College of Medicine in Philadelphia and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society for excellence in leadership, education, and research. During his time at Drexel, he was instrumental in running the college's health outreach clinics.
Dr. Baxi completed his orthopaedic residency training at Rutgers University Hospital in Newark, New Jersey. At Rutgers, he had the privilege to learn from world-renowned experts in all of the orthopedic subspecialties.
Dr. Baxi was engaged in several research studies spanning the field of orthopaedics from hand surgery to foot and ankle surgery, culminating in being presented the Outstanding Research Award at the Rutgers Orthopaedic residency. He has authored several book chapters and research studies in orthopaedic surgery which have been presented at national and international society meetings.
After completion of his orthopaedic residency, Dr. Baxi pursued further specialization in hand and peripheral nerve surgery at the University of Texas and Hand Center of San Antonio. Through his training in San Antonio, Dr. Baxi gained the skills and experience necessary to treat all aspects of hand and upper extremity conditions including endoscopic carpal tunnel releases, peripheral nerve compression, tendon injuries, arthritis, pediatric injuries and deformities, and sports injuries. As part of his fellowship, he had the privilege of participating in the care of the San Antonio Spurs, University of Texas San Antonio collegiate athletics, and local high school athletes.
When he's not in the office or operating room, Dr. Baxi enjoys spending his time with his loving wife, who is a local endocrinologist. He particularly enjoys watching the Philadelphia Eagles, hiking, biking, and exploring the DelMarVa region.
